INDIVIDUAL PROJECT
Students
will have to write a 350-400 words paper in a diary style where they will have
to talk about one of the character in the novel. They will have to create the
life of this character. They know his present (it is written in the novel), so
they will have to create his past (how come he has a role in the novel) and his
future life (what happened to him after the war). The teacher will give them a
list of possible characters they can choose from, a plan of the paper they will
have to fill out and an evaluation grid of the project.

I always thought that creativity had an
important role to play in order to learn and to acquire new things. With this
project, my students showed me what they were able to do with their knowledge of
English. The fact that they had to create the past and the future life of the
character they chose from the novel Night, written by Elie Wiesel,
a Jew who escaped the concentration camps during the Second World War, showed me
that they understood the story and that they were able to use the past and the
future tenses. The way I presented the project helped them to learn about the
diary-style essay form. To make it even more relevant for the students I burned
the sheet to make it look old, because it was a novel about the Second World War.
